CCTV Maintenance Singapore
A camera that is powered on is not the same as a camera that is recording. CCTV maintenance matters because most systems fail quietly, and the owner finds out on the one day the footage is needed. Surveillance Zone has serviced, repaired and upgraded CCTV since 2003, on any brand, whoever installed it. Pricing is quoted after a free on-site survey, no obligation.
How CCTV systems fail without telling you
Almost every CCTV failure is silent. There is no alarm and no obvious sign on the app, so the system looks healthy right up to the moment somebody asks for last Tuesday's footage. The most common cause is the hard drive. A surveillance recorder writes continuously, every hour of every day, and it can keep showing a live picture while saving nothing usable.
Next is the lens and housing. In Singapore's humidity, dome covers haze over, spiders and geckos nest in front of the lens, and infrared reflects off a dirty dome until the night image is white glare. Then come the physical faults: ageing power supplies that brown out cameras at night, corroded connectors, and brackets that creep until the camera watching the gate now watches the sky.
- Recorder drives wear out and can stop saving footage
- Hazy domes and cobwebs wreck night images through infrared glare
- Ageing power supplies cause night-time dropouts
- Cameras drift off aim and cover the wrong area
What our maintenance and upgrade work covers
We service and repair existing CCTV on any brand, so you need not have bought the system from us. On maintenance we do system health checks and cleaning, and fault diagnosis and repair. Cleaning makes the biggest visible difference of anything here, because a clear dome at night is the difference between a usable face and a white blur. Diagnosis is tracing a fault to its real cause, since a camera that drops out could be the camera, cable, connector or power supply.
On upgrades we handle storage and NVR upgrades, camera resolution upgrades, and firmware and remote-access fixes. Storage is a common request, because owners go looking for footage from weeks ago and find the system holds days. Resolution matters when the picture shows that something happened but not who did it.
- System health checks and cleaning
- Fault diagnosis and repair
- Storage and NVR upgrades
- Camera resolution upgrades
- Firmware and remote-access fixes
What a proper maintenance visit should include
If you are comparing CCTV maintenance in Singapore, this is a fair standard to hold any provider to, us included. A visit that never physically touches the cameras and never checks the recorder's health is not maintenance, it is a look at the screen. The recorder deserves the most attention: check the drive's reported health, confirm every channel is genuinely recording rather than merely displaying, and test that footage from a chosen date can be found and exported.
- Verify every channel is recording, not merely displaying
- Check drive health and the retention you actually get
- Test playback and export from a specific date and time
- Clean lenses, domes and housings; clear cobwebs and nests
- Confirm camera aim, focus and the system time and date
Retention, drives and NVR upgrades
Retention is how many days of footage your system holds before overwriting the oldest recordings, and it is the number most owners get wrong. It is not a setting you can wish upwards; it is storage capacity divided by how fast your cameras write. Four things push that write rate up: more cameras, higher resolution, higher frame rate, and whether cameras record continuously or only on motion. Busy scenes generate more data than a still corridor, which is why identical systems on different sites hold different numbers of days.
- Retention depends on storage, resolution, frame rate and scene activity
- Motion-based recording stretches retention but can miss context
- Older recorders may cap drive size, channel count or resolution
Homes, shops, offices and worksites
Any recording system benefits from maintenance, but the cost of a silent failure differs by site. For HDB flats, condominiums and landed homes, the system exists for a small number of specific events, so retention and a clean night image matter most. Shops and F&B outlets sit at the other end, with cameras over hot kitchens covering the till, where a gap in recording has a direct cost. Offices tend to be larger systems where nobody clearly owns the CCTV, which is how a channel stays dead for months.
- HDB flats, condominiums and landed homes
- Shops, F&B outlets and other retail premises
- Offices and commercial buildings, especially alongside door access
- Industrial premises and worksites exposed to dust and weather
What determines the price, and how we work
We do not publish a price for maintenance, and that is deliberate rather than evasive. A four-camera flat and a large warehouse have nothing in common, and until someone has looked, any figure is invented. The main driver is system size. Access is next, because cameras at high level take longer to reach safely. Then the state of the system and its cabling.
It starts with the free on-site survey, no obligation, on whatever brand you have. You then get a plain report separating what must be fixed from what would be an improvement, plus a quote. The work is done by our own certified in-house installers, not sub-contractors. Any equipment we supply is genuine, warrantied Hikvision or Dahua, never grey-market.
- Number of cameras and recorders on site
- Height and accessibility of the camera positions
- Condition of the existing installation and cabling
- Whether it is a health check, a diagnosis or an upgrade
- Any replacement parts, quoted before we proceed
